My final cut

This is my final thriller product I use alot of my inseration on what type of conventions I was going to input to my title sequence incleading some of my own differen idea's which I think challenges the thriller convention ever so slighty but still creates a sense of tension witch is key.

preliminary task

this was just a very basic plan on lerning differnt shot type angles at the begining of the AS media year

Sunday, 7 March 2010

looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progession from it to the full product?

When reviewing my work from how far it has come from my preliminary task I have realized how much work it takes to direct edit and organises everything from the story board planning to the casting when I look back at my progression I feel I have learnt how to use the camera much more effiently and get the angle of my shot much more confidently without retaking the shot so many times I feel have learnt how to manipulate the camera much better on getting the right effects with the right shot for example when in a more tense seen you are able to move the camera of the tripod to create a more realistic atmosphere to the audience ect. Also I feel I have learnt throughout my progression is how different storylines casting and edits will make the product of my work appeal to different audiences and how you would need to adapt it so it creates the perfect for your product genre.
Also I have learnt about the institution and producers and how they relate in relevance to the product and even though I my peace of product institutions wasn’t used but solely to created effect I learnt how important it is the have in as they are the label and bran that sometimes that alone can appeal to a target audience. For example a plain white top with a low designer name to a plain white to with a high prices designer like Gucci will appeal to more people than the other and it is in the same way the movie industry work as a film direct by Mel Gibson and distributed by 20th century fox will have more appeal than the lower names.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt how to use I movie as it was completely new to me and mange to grasp its wide range of features from uploading and exporting from video cameras to downloading sound from webpage’s all across the internet and also with in downloading music I have learnt that copyrighting of music is a strict law in the industry and producing world and is taking with strict measures. When constructing my work I found this a difficulty to overcome as imovie only had basic sounds and would create hardly any authenticity to my product so i asked my teacher and she explain their are website where they have music websites were music copying is ok for example free sound.org.
I have become aware of how to use Blogger and how there is so much more you ca do with it than just to post pages and pages of text but how you can scan in work up load images and sound post videos customise backgrounds to give some originality

How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience through conman ground based areas such as the park and also technology such as the mobile phone and how these simple objects can have such a dominate effect on the lives of teenagers also to make sure I never attracted the wrong age I made sure I included a dark dull coloured back ground than to the bight greens and bright blues a park normally holds. Also I made sure I inputted scars of a teenager to tell the audience and parents of children that it isn’t child friendly and could be a possibility to slightly scare views

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Who would be the audience for your media product?

I feel the mass of my target audience would be manly of the working class average teenager of both genders but with the majority males as it touches deeply into the ins and outs of their lives and how they deal with the pressure of popularity school education and attracting the opposite sex. The niche of my target audience would be the few adults (manly of parents) who want to have a slight insight to what their teenaged or slightly younger children get up to so they can understand their way of though as sometimes loose communication with them due to the different time areas they were bout up in, but still be able to acknowledge that this is clearly a movie and can’t hang on the every content of the product as it is a thriller and the intentions is to scare excite and confuse the views.

Tuesday, 2 March 2010

what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A media institution that might distribute my product would be one of the thriller entertainment industries such as Spy glass due to the fast past, short shots opening sequence of my film. Also I think it might interest Hollywood pitchers as it has the making of a really good thriller film as of the way it follows the trait of the sixth sense with a lengthy time of credits at the start of the film to draw in and engage the views but realistically might be but of due to the low funding and query to make enough profit margins so a more local institution might be more keen to distribute my product like channel 4 or the BBC

Monday, 1 March 2010

How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

My media products represents social groups between teenagers in the classic stereotypical way as were the class and popularity between them counts for everything and how easily it is for one lest fortunate teenager to spiral in a world of depression and so often than not represented in the media to self harm and even kill their selves. It also slightly touches the social group of adults and how they are sometime so unaware and bewildered of what the struggles of teenagers go through and seem to not take much of an interest due to the stereotypical attitude of teenagers to say in a conman line of the media “leave me alone, my day ways fine “ .

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

opening film sequence uses conventions of real media products such as the slow eerie titles that appear at the start of the sixth sense. I decided to use most of my titles at the start to build tension and create atmosphere to my work but then decided that inputing establishing shot to challenge the stereotype of close ups but still fits in with the stereotype of making the audience ask questions. I used I used the classic convention of tension building music such as a simple beat and a backing music shortly accompanies my product to create more nerves. I then choose to channeling the stereotype of fast past clips not showing you the full view of the main subject in the clip (in my case a person) but then still managed to keep the stereotype by using objects in the mise-en-scene to hide the key details such has his face making the audience what to see the film even more as all good thriller products do.

Casting

There's only three members of us within our small group so we decided that there will only be three characters in our opening sequence to our Thriller movie. We planned the story-line and then wrote our the character descriptions, from there we decided who would play who. at the start when we was deciding to see who does who in the acting sequence of the film Tyler told us he didn't what a big role in the acting and would rather help more with the shooting thats why he has the smaller role of Scott who is found dead in the park . then it was me and Jacob left to diced what to do in the too roles but came to the conclusion that it didn't really matter as much due to the similarity to their lifestyle and personality, apart from their sense of humor. I decided to take the role of Norman, the slightly more serious guy who is the leader of the three pals. This left Jacob with Brandon; they guy who was the same as Norman just had a little bit more of a laugh and thought with his families wealth he'd be able to stroll through life.
So with people now given their characters and their roles etc. We individually started to plan costumes, props and whatever else our character would need.

Character descriptions

Scott (Tyler): Scott is the odd one out in the group, he is the sort of the tag-along kid. He's always behind on the latest news, never up to date with the latest pair of trainers and unlike many boys doesn't take an interest in football. He's a tall, white boy who wears scruffy clothes and doesn't have a lot of money. This shows up with the technology the three of them show off in the opening sequence. is aged 15 making him the youngest of the group witch always leads to jealousy

Norman (Paul): Norman is the leader of the three boys. Although he's character and Brandon don't seem different, Norman sort of has the upper hand on things. He has the last say, the good ideas and is always the one to pipe up first! He's a flash kid, the newest shoes with the designer hoody and the best mobile, iPod, PSP etc money can buy. On top of this, he doesn't give Scott as much aggro as Brandon does. His 16, quite tall, golden brown in complection and stocky in staure making the dominent alpha male in the group.

Brandon (Jacob): Brandon is sort of the 'Malcolm in the Middle' type of character. He's better than Scott but not better than Norman. He's just as flash as Norman, with the same clothes and latest gadgets although there's something about him that holds him back from being on the same level as Norman within the group. He likes to get his kicks out of making fun out of Scott's disadvantages in life, although sometimes it back-fires. His avrage hight, white, 16 and mediam billd.

None of the three characters have jobs, apart from Scott who sometimes helps out his dad if he needs help down the yard. There all high-school students in there last year of school preparing for their GCSE's.

Shooting Schedule

A shooting schedulle is a proget plan of each days shooting for a film production. It is normaly created and manged by the assistant director who reports to the product manger, managing the production schedule. Both schedules represents a timeline stating where and when production resorses are used.

this is very important to us as a group as we have a very busy life style with college work and semi pro football so it is imporantant we make set times were everyone is avalible, without the structure of our shooting schedulle trying to complete are video shot would of been choatic and unorganised leaving us with a squeas for time

Our Story board

This story plan was as a group a frame we all worked on but throughout the making of the stroy board are group came acroos the diffuclty of get all the imput we wanted so as a result some of the final cut of the film wouldnt be excast to the board but more along the lines a gide for example i disceded that the flash backs of the film wasnt as a pealing to me as i first fort so i cut it out and concentrated on a more detailed storline on the esablishing shits of the area in were the incedent with Scott took place.

Also another big debate was how the start of the opening thriller ended some people in our group wanned it to end with us the to wealther charecters Norman and Bradon asking themself were he gould be and others wanted it to just end on the cut of the phone with the name of the title "Behind it All" i oped for this one because in my opinoun it made the operning more effective and not drag on.

Sound

In the opening sequence of my film the sound is going to start of with a simple heart beat or vibration in witch creating teniton on nervs of the audience. Acomnying this is the introduction of an eerie noise (starting at the first shot) running through the hole of the operning thriller witch gets louder and lower in key moments of the film, for example when the audience views a mid shot of Scott lieng down the eerie noice stops completely and the heart be gets louder witch represents the question of the survival "is he dead or alive". Then the eerie music comes back into play as soon as the shot changes. Also in my opening thriller as the staring names of the chacters shown its a comanied by a little wispher of sound sending a chill down the spine of a audience just keepin them tence and still firsty to see more. It ends with another burst of screaching sound again keepin the audience edgy witch is tipical with the convention of the genre.

Initial Ideas

from the off, i realy wanted to do the triller genre, as we gathered so much information on it in lesson time and also it added to my choice as it's one of my favorite film genres . The rest of my group was really keen on doing an action film but manged to persuad them on insuring the thriller genre would be suitable as everyone's formiluar with it and plus its still fresh in our head, in the end they went along with it .First of we was thinking of a location i wanted to do it in a airy but practical common area witch then came to my idea of as a park. As a group we then diced to do it in sutton common park and some of the back roads near it. Our first idea was to have a normal school boy shot dead with a phone ringing, we then realized that guns wasn't aloud to be shot (safety reasons in the public) but in the end worked in our favor as it would make us have to work around it leaving the audience with more suspense and questions witch it a convention of a thriller.

Film synopsis of my groups thriller

After analysing numerous amounts of opening thriller films it was time to start on planning a thriller film of our own. Before this could happen we as groups of 3 would have to make a detailed plan and overview of the story and then plan in=t in a story bored. The reason why we Have to come up with a hole thriller story line is because it well help us as a group to come up with a detailed opening thriller story and inputting all the conventions on what makes a good thriller, for example having a clue/hint in the opening sequence which doesn’t make sense but feather down the line in the story it will fit in perfectly due to the non liner story line.

Plot Synopsis:

There is a group of three friends. One of the friends, Scott Gregory seems to be behind the other two, (Norman Allen and Brandon Feonix). He seems to be the 'tag-along' of the group. Norman and Brandon lead quite good lives. Have a fair bit of money, both have girlfriends, they live in a slightly higher class area and they don't do very much at home as they both have a mother and a father there if they need them. Scott has only one person at home, his mother, as his father died shortly after he left his old school (which was not a very good school) to go to a better school in Sutton. As his friends keep on bragging about what they have and how well they're getting on in their school, Scott gets very angry about this and tries to keep his anger to himself. His friends, however, keep on going on about their fantastic lives and Scott just goes along with everything they are saying. Norman or Brandon might say what they have done recently. For example, going to places like the 02 or even just up to Croydon. Scott just answers them by saying "Oh, yeah. Yeah, its good there". -Even when he has never been to any of the places brought up by his friends. His friends say things like "Oh, my dad got me this I-phone for my birthday. You can do like, bare things with it, you know!". Scott would just answer, "Oh, yeah, my mum got me last years nokia" (or something along those lines). Eventually, Scott gets too frustrated and, really, looses it. He gets his hand on a gun, planning to kill his friends and hopefully take some of their things. He then saw how happy they were with everything and decided to turn the gun on him self.

After we manage to come up witha good storyline and ruff plan of what are opping storyline is going to be about we had to come yp with a title, we whated to intise views to watch it but not give too Tyler’s good thoughts
much of what the film was going to be about in the end we chose the name “BEHIND IT ALL”
curtsey of
my group is me Tyler and Jacob

Audience Research results

These results how us that age and gender matter little when I comes to thrillers and most enjoy a classic conventional thriller that feels the audience with allot of tension and suspense what was also very helpful is that the audience seem to clearly know the difference between a horror and means I will need to clearly show this in my thriller. Lastly I believe my results would only increase in the reliability by increasing the amount of people I and out my questionnaire to.
